Third Annual CCSU Conference on Shared Governance and Student Success
CSCU Board of Regents Teaching and Research Awards to be Presented; Bestselling Author Dr. Sara Goldrick-Rab is keynote speaker
The Faculty Advisory Committee to the Board of Regents for Higher Education will present the Third Annual Conference on Shared Governance and Student Success on Friday, April 6, at Central Connecticut State University, 1615 Stanley St., New Britain, beginning at 8 a.m. in Alumni Hall. The daylong conference titled, “Building a Better Connecticut in an Era of Fiscal Uncertainty,” will feature more than 30 presentations by educators of the Connecticut State College and Universities (CSCU) system and other institutions. The presentations will focus on educational initiatives and innovative support services that promote student success.
At 9:15 a.m., the Board of Regents Teaching and Research awards will be presented to CSCU faculty in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and research. The conference will conclude with a CSCU student and alumni panel discussion on the ways the CSCU system has helped shape their life successes. View faculty abstracts (pdf).
The keynote speaker from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. will be Dr. Sara Goldrick-Rab, author of the Amazon bestseller Paying the Price: College Costs, Financial Aid, and the Betrayal of the American Dream. Dr. Goldrick-Rab is professor of Higher Education Policy and Sociology at Temple University and founder of the Wisconsin HOPE Lab, the nation’s only translational research laboratory seeking ways to make college more affordable. She is the recipient of the William T. Grant Foundation’s Faculty Scholars Award and the American Educational Research Association’s Early Career Award. In 2016, POLITICO magazine named Dr. Goldrick-Rab one of the top 50 people shaping American politics. She was featured on “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah,” the “New York Review of Books,” and CSPAN’s “Book TV” among other venues.
