The Connecticut State Colleges and Universities Foundation Awards 10 Scholarships

The Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) Foundation awarded 10 scholarships to students who are attending CSCU institutions for their academic achievements, leadership and community service.

Eight scholarships were awarded to high school students accepted for full-time admission into CSCU institutions, and two scholarships — the Donofrio Family Science Award and James Frost Scholarship — were awarded to CSCU students who transferred from one of the 12 Connecticut Community Colleges to a CSCU university. These include Central, Eastern, Southern and Western Connecticut State Universities.

“We hope that the resources provided will help lead to the educational success of these students and we look forward to celebrating their accomplishments in the future,” said Robert Bourne, President of the CSCU Foundation.

James Frost Scholarship ($5,000)

Abigail DiBetta was awarded the James Frost Scholarship. Dibetta, who graduated from Naugatuck Valley Community College, transferred into Central Connecticut State University as a psychological science major.

The James Frost Scholarship goes to a student who has completed his/her associate degree at a Connecticut Community College and plans to matriculate directly to one of the four CSCU universities to pursue a bachelor’s degree in the arts and sciences, with preference given to students studying in the humanities.

Donofrio Family Science Award  ($2,000)

Frukan Illeaasu earned the Donofrio Family Science Award. Illeaasu, who graduated from Capital Community College, transferred into Central Connecticut State University as a biology major.

The Donofrio Family Science Award goes to a minority, female or traditionally unrepresented student in the science fields who completed an associate degree at a Connecticut Community College and plans to matriculate into one of the four universities of the CSCU system to pursue a bachelor’s degree in the physical sciences.

Pratt and Whitney Science and Technology Scholarship ($1,000)

David Hausmann and Khushbu Patel were each awarded the Pratt and Whitney Science and Technology Scholarship for their demonstrated interest in science or technology.  Hausmann is a Management Information Systems (MIS) major at Central Connecticut State University, and Patel is a biology major at Southern Connecticut State University.

Tulisano Humanitarian Award Scholarship ($1,000)

Hunter Held was awarded the Tulisano Humanitarian Award Scholarship for his record of academic progress, public service, community involvement and extracurricular activities. Recipients of this scholarship must be Rocky Hill residents. Held is a physical therapy major at Southern Connecticut State University.

1. Clark Hull Public Service Scholarship ($500)

Ashley Barry, Janasia Bodu and Edwina Lorient were each awarded the T. Clark Hull Public Service Scholarship for their demonstrated leadership and commitment to service to their high school and/or community. Barry is attending Southern Connecticut State University’s Honors College, Body is a political science and economics major at Central Connecticut State University, and Lorient is an engineering major at Central Connecticut State University.

Celia W. Brown Memorial Grant for the Visual Arts ($500)

Phoebe Hart and Marcus Sanford  were each awarded the Celia W. Brown Memorial Grant for the Visual Arts. The scholarship is awarded to students who are studying in the visual arts abroad or out-of-state. Hart is an Honors Program arts student at Western Connecticut State University who will be studying at the Studio Arts College International in Florence, Italy. Sanford, who graduated from Northwestern Connecticut Community College, is an English major at Central Connecticut State University.
