Phi Theta Kappa Community College Students Named to All-Connecticut Academic Team
29 high-achieving students from the 12 community colleges were named to the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) All-Connecticut Academic Team.
Last Friday, 29 high-achieving students from the 12 community colleges of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) were named to the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) All-Connecticut Academic Team. For the first time, the Board of Regents for CSCU will award each student a $200 scholarship.
“These 29 students are the top scholars among Connecticut’s 12 community colleges, and have excelled in the classroom and beyond,” said CSCU Interim President Jane Gates. “This recognition is an outstanding achievement and the result of their hard work, leadership skills, and commitment. We take immense pride in these students — some who have overcome tremendous challenges to attend college — as they continue their education or begin careers in their chosen professions.”
Sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa — the international honor society of two-year colleges and academic programs — the All-Connecticut Academic Team is one of the All-USA Community College qualifying teams. This honor recognizes high achieving two-year college students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership and service beyond the classroom. Each student is earning an associate degree, maintains a 3.5 GPA or higher and is involved in campus activities.
In addition to being selected All-Connecticut Academic Team scholars, Madison Peladeau of Northwestern Connecticut Community College (NCCC), was named a 2021 Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar, Sally DeJesus of Asnuntuck Community College was named a 2021 New Century Workforce Scholar, and Jack Waters of Norwalk Community College, was named a
2021 New Century Transfer Pathway Scholar.
The All-CT Academic Team state coordinator is Todd Bryda, NCCC professor of history. Bryda's co-host for the virtual All-Connecticut Academic Team ceremony held on April 16 was Crystal Wiggins, NCCC math professor and co-advisor for NCCC's campus chapter of PTK. CSCU Interim President Jane Gates was keynote speaker at the virtual event.
