Housatonic Community College President to Retire

Dr. Gregory Gray, president of the Board of Regents for Higher Education, announced that Anita Gliniecki will retire as president of Housatonic Community College (HCC) effective Sept. 4, 2014.

“I commend President Gliniecki for her outstanding service to the students of Housatonic Community College and for her unwavering focus on student success,” said President Gray. “On behalf of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system and Board of Regents for Higher Education, I sincerely thank President Gliniecki for her commitment to the students, faculty and staff of Housatonic Community College, HCC’s industry partners, and to the state’s workforce development efforts.”

President Gliniecki joined HCC  in 2003 as dean of academic services, and served in that position until July, 2006, when she was named acting president.  In 2007, she was appointed president.  As HCC president, her efforts were instrumental in state support and securing the grant that brought one of Connecticut’s three advanced manufacturing centers to HCC. She was also instrumental in securing the Achieving the Dream grant and the Developmental Education Initiative from the Gates Foundation.

During her tenure, President Gliniecki also oversaw the opening of Beacon Hall, the 173,000-square-foot addition to the HCC campus which added classrooms, student activity space, computer and language labs and an expanded bookstore. The college is now planning the renovation of Lafayette Hall.

Prior to joining HCC, she was vice president for academic services at St. Clair Community College in Port Huron, Michigan. A native of Michigan, President Gliniecki earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and a master’s degree in nursing from Wayne State University. President Gliniecki recently received the Susan L. Davis Women’s Leadership Award from the Bridgeport-based Women’s Leadership Council. She also serves as president of the Bridgeport Rotary, and is chair of the Bridgeport Higher Education Alliance.
