Board of Regents President Submits His Resignation

Gregory Gray, President of the Board of Regents and the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) system, today submitted his resignation to Board of Regents Chairman Nicholas Donofrio, effective December 31, 2015.

 

“This decision was purely a personal one, arrived at after a number of months of consideration and discussion with my family,” President Gray said. “There is still much more to be done for the CSCU system and its students. However, I will leave believing that we have accomplished a great deal for our students and for the State, and laid a solid foundation for the future.”

 

“The Board of Regents will consider President Gray’s letter shortly, but we will do so with regret,” BOR Chairman Nicholas Donofrio said upon receiving President Gray’s letter earlier today. “It is important to note that the decision was Greg’s alone, and that we know he arrived at this decision after much thought and discussion with his family.” Added Chairman Donofrio: “Speaking for the Board, I am grateful for the vision and the passion he brought to CSCU. We will miss his deep commitment to higher education in Connecticut, and to his steadfast pursuit of accessibility and affordability.”

 

Vice Chairman Yvette Melendez echoed Chairman Donofrio’s sentiments, citing Dr. Gray’s leadership in launching new programs designed to promote excellence in academics and workforce readiness. “Throughout Dr. Gray’s two-year tenure at CSCU, he has initiated or implemented a number of programs designed to improve student experience and outcomes: CT ECO, a program in which IBM and Norwalk Community College are working together to produce students ready for important roles in leading companies in Connecticut’s high tech industries; Transfer and Articulation (TAP), which will enable seamless transfer for all CSCU students across all its institutions; and implementation of Governor Malloy’s innovative Go Back to Get Ahead program, leading to the re-enrollment of almost 1,500 ‘lapsed’ students in the CSCU system. It represents a significant list of accomplishments.”

 

The Board of Regents will be meeting shortly to discuss Dr. Gray’s resignation, and to determine the steps necessary to initiate an orderly transition to new leadership.
